Bijna 1.500 spullen uit Michael Jacksons persoonlijke boedel komen tussen 22 en 25 april onder de veilinghamer. De King of Pop heeft geldproblemen (hier álle roddels). De kijkdagen zijn vandaag begonnen bij Juliens Auction.

De catalogus staat hier online. Hier zo’n mooie collage van de Washington Post. Flickr mocht ook foto’s komen nemen. De veiling brengen naar verwachting tussen de 15 en 20 miljoen dollar op.

De New York Times over de achtergrond:

“(…) As part of the deal last year that saved Neverland from foreclosure, Mr. Jackson had to remove all his possessions from the estate, according to court documents. Rather than find storage for it all, Tohme R. Tohme, the president of MJJ Productions, Mr. Jackson’s company, and a spokesman for the singer, signed a contract consigning to Julien’s “all movable and removable personal property located at Neverland Ranch.”

“They approved the press release,” said Mr. Julien, whose company has handled memorabilia auctions for Barbra Streisand, Cher and other celebrities. “Michael himself even drove by the auction site.” (…)”

“(…) “What he loved, he collected in mass quantity,” says Kathleen Guzman, the auctioneer. “What is unusual, more so than any other celebrity memorabilia sale, is what a pack rat he was.”

The nearly 2,000 items are from Neverland, the Los Olivos, Calif., wine country property that Jackson left in 2005 after being acquitted of child molestation charges. (…)”
