De Engelse handelsorganisatie IMRG verwacht dat vandaag, 8 december, de drukte dag voor e-commerce zal zijn in het hele jaar. De piek ligt tussen 14:00 en 15:00 Nederlandse tijd.
In dat uur zal voor 28 miljoen pond bij webwinkels worden besteed. Dat is 93 miljoen euro in een uur, of: 1,5 miljoen euro per seconde.
BBC News meldt:
“(…) The UK is set for its busiest internet shopping day of the year, with £320m forecast to be spent online. The internet trade body IMRG says the UK’s Christmas online retail sales could reach £13.6bn ($19.9bn). (…)
Forecasts suggest about 5.2 million people will be doing online Christmas shopping at work this year. The research, by polling organisation GfK NOP, said one in 10 online shoppers were also planning to have their online Christmas shopping delivered to work. (…)
Some 29 million people are expected to use the internet to buy Christmas presents this year. ”
Vorige week maandag was het cybermonday in Amerika, koopjesmaandag op internet na Thanksgiving. De New York Times laat zich voorrekenen dat het niet alleen maar halleluja was. De recessie begint ook in e-commerceland gestalte te krijgen:
“(…) Chase Paymentech’s Cyber Holiday Pulse Index reported an increase for Cyber Monday 2008 of less than 1 percent in revenue, although it also recorded 14 percent more total transactions this year.
What gives? The answer lies in the average value of each purchase by online shoppers, down 12 percent from last year. Chase’s index, which surveys 25 of the largest 150 retailers on its Internet payment processing network, showed that the average shopper spent $7.19 less per transaction on Cyber Monday this year over last — reflecting deeper discounts than usual, thriftier shoppers or both. (…)”
