“(…) “[Our customers'] banks were always there for them, but the uncertainty in the financial community is making expansion plans few and far between,†he said.
The sales canvassers, who underpin Yell’s print and online directories in the UK, US and Spain, are reporting an extremely nervous outlook among the small and medium-sized enterprises that are their regular clients.
“The expansion we would normally have seen in a lot of small businesses has come to a halt. It’s almost as if they are frozen at the moment, with the fear and uncertainty of what lies ahead of them.†(…)
Mr Condron said Yell would save £150m in the current year and £100m in 2009, with about 1,300 jobs lost in each period. The UK, where Yell employs 3,800 of its 13,900 total workforce, was likely to see a similar number of redundancies and unfilled jobs next year as this. (…)”
